WATCH: April acts of kindness: Volunteers shine at Norris Square

Bill Conallen

Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s (PCA) efforts to empower older adult volunteerism across diverse communities was spotlighted on 6abc’s Art of Aging segment, a news series that connects adults with various resources throughout the region.

Norris Square Senior Community Center relies on volunteers like Pilar Vazquez and Sonia Segui to provide meals and a supportive environment for its predominantly Latino members. Supported by funding from PCA, the center operates bilingually and offers a variety of services. Volunteers contribute their time and skills to tasks such as cooking and gardening, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

During National Volunteer Month, individuals like Vazquez and Segui are recognized for their dedication, exemplifying the spirit of service at the center. Their efforts, alongside those of other volunteers, contribute to the creation of a welcoming “family” atmosphere for older adults and people with disabilities.

Those interested in volunteering can reach out to the PCA Helpline at 215-765-9040 to get involved.
