Pennsylvania Department of Aging Hosts Statewide Meeting to Strengthen Elder Abuse Protections
The Pennsylvania Department of Aging recently brought together leaders and experts from across the Commonwealth to advance protections for older adults. The special learning session with the Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) Network focused on expanding the use of Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) to improve responses to elder abuse and complex protective services cases.
MDTs unite professionals from social services, law enforcement, health care, and finance to better coordinate investigations and interventions. Under Secretary of Aging Jason Kavulich’s leadership, the Department is working to expand this effective approach—already used in other states—to communities throughout Pennsylvania.
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) was proud to be part of this important statewide discussion. Shani Gilmore, Executive Administrator of Long-Term Care at PCA, served as one of the event’s featured speakers, sharing insights and local experience on building effective collaboration to protect older adults.
The meeting included a bipartisan group of participants, with representatives from the Office of Attorney General, Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association, and the Office of Elder Justice in the Courts, as well as all 27 AAAs in Pennsylvania. Other speakers included Secretary Jason Kavulich; Beth Herold, Butler County AAA Director and President; Dr. Mark Lachs of Weill Cornell Medicine; Holly Kyle, Union-Snyder AAA Director; and David Shallcross, Director of the Senior Protection Unit in the Office of Attorney General.
Philadelphia Corporation for Aging remains committed to working with partners across Pennsylvania to help older adults live safely, with dignity and respect.
