Emergency Fund Coalition celebrates 46 years of lifesaving support

Bill Conallen

On June 5, 2025, the Emergency Fund Coalition for Older Philadelphians hosted its 46th Annual Awards Luncheon, gathering community leaders, advocates, and supporters to raise funds for older adults in crisis. The event featured live music, a silent auction, and heartfelt remarks from PCA President & CEO Dr. Najja Orr and luncheon chair Wanda Mitchell, PCA’s Director of Community Engagement.

During the program, four outstanding individuals were recognized with Community Service Awards for their extraordinary contributions to older adults in Philadelphia: Tiguida Kaba of AFAHO, Reverend Herbert H. Lusk III of Greater Exodus Baptist Church, Dr. Eric M. Edi of AFRICOM, and John Erickson of Penn’s Village. Their work highlights the strength and compassion of those serving on the front lines of aging services.

In the past year alone, the Emergency Fund provided more than $179,500 in assistance to over 1,000 older Philadelphians facing urgent needs such as hunger, utility shutoffs, or lack of access to medications. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and community partners, the Emergency Fund continues to be a vital safety net for older adults when no other resources are available.
