Carousel of Talent showcases the creative spirit of older Philadelphians
On June 12, older adults from across Philadelphia took center stage for the 2nd Annual Carousel of Talent, held at the Philadelphia Senior Center – Avenue of the Arts. Presented by Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA), the event highlighted the diverse artistic talents of older adults from PCA’s senior community centers. Performers, ranging in age from 60 to 95, shared a joyful afternoon of music, dance, poetry, and storytelling in front of a packed house of friends, family, and community supporters.
The program featured eight unique acts representing senior centers throughout the city. Highlights included a spirited Latin dance by Grupo Alegría from Norris Square Senior Center, original poetry from Renay Cook, traditional folk dance by performers from On Lok House, and a piano performance by Lois Kukcinovich. The afternoon concluded with a powerful performance by the Southwest Senior Center Choir, led by Carolyn Sims-Nesmith, singing The Storm is Passing Over as a rousing finale.
The event was emceed by PCA’s Mike Drzik and featured opening remarks by PCA President & CEO Najja R. Orr. PCA thanks its generous sponsors, Always Best Care Senior Services of Philadelphia and Highmark Wholecare, for supporting this celebration of aging, culture, and community. The Carousel of Talent affirmed that creativity knows no age and that the stage is always open for those with the courage to share their gifts.
