Art Knows No Age: PCA Honors Creativity at 2025 Celebrate Arts & Aging Reception
PCA celebrated the talents and imagination of older adults at a lively artists’ reception held at the South Philadelphia Older Adult Center. The event marked a highlight of the 23rd Annual Celebrate Arts & Aging exhibit, which continues to uplift and showcase the creative contributions of Philadelphia’s aging community.
The walls of the center came alive with colorful paintings, photography, and mixed media works—all created by artists aged 55 and older. Each piece stood as a testament to the enduring power of creativity and its ability to inspire, heal, and connect people of all ages.
Jacqui Makowski, PCA’s Senior Center Supervisor, welcomed attendees and shared heartfelt reflections on the significance of the exhibit. “Celebrate Arts & Aging is more than just an art show—it’s a celebration of our members’ voices, visions, and vitality,” Makowski said. “It reminds us that creativity doesn’t have an expiration date.”
The event also underscored the proven benefits of creative engagement in later life, including enhanced cognitive function, reduced isolation, and improved emotional well-being.
Now in its 23rd year, Celebrate Arts & Aging continues to highlight the transformative role the arts can play in aging with purpose and joy.
The exhibit will conclude with a closing reception at Center on the Hill on Thursday, May 29 at 2 p.m.
