Action Wellness – Center City Annex

Over 10% of all new AIDS cases in the US occur in people over the age of 50. In the last few years new AIDS cases rose faster in middle age and older people than in people under 40. While many of these AIDS cases are the result of HIV infection at a younger age many are due to becoming infected after age 50. Some health/service providers and even older adults themselves do not realize that seniors are at the same risk as every other population for HIV. Most adults over the age of 50 are diagnosed at a late stage of infection. They often become ill with AIDS related complications more quickly than younger individuals because their early symptoms were misdiagnosed as normal aging processes. If caught earlier on through routine HIV testing seniors stand a better chance of effectively managing their symptoms and achieving better quality of life. Prevention Services at Action Aids include: *Comprehensive Risk Counseling Services (CRCS) * Speaker’s Bureau *Counseling Resting and Referral Services (CTR) * HIV Educational/Outreach
