Transportation

The discount and benefit programs include free rides and fare discounts on public transportation; medical transportation; special transportation programs for those unable to use public transportation services; and insurance discounts.

Automobile Insurance Discount
Pennsylvania mandates a discount on auto insurance for drivers age 55 and older who complete the American Association of Retired Person’s mature driver improvement course, 55 Alive.

Public and Private Transportation Discount Programs  

AMTRAK offers travelers 62 and older a 15% discount off rail travel anywhere in the country.

Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) of Pennsylvania and New Jersey discounts bridge tolls for passengers and drivers 65 and older crossing all four DRPA bridges.

New Jersey Transit offers passengers age 65 and older and those with disabilities an opportunity to save one-half or more off regular one-way fares at all times. To be eligible, riders must present a valid New Jersey Transit Fare card.

PATCO (Port Authority Transportation Company of PA and NJ) offers a reduced-fare, ten-trip ticket, valid at all times, to those age 65 and older.

SEPTA City Lines offer free transportation for people 65 and older and half-price fares for those with handicaps during non-peak hours, weekends and holidays.

SEPTA Regional Rail Lines, serving suburban destinations, offer seniors and disabled passengers one-way rides for $1 during off-peak hours.

Medical Transportation Services  

Logisticare
provides transportation to and from non-emergency medical appointments to Medicaid clients.

Wheels of  Wellness provides non-emergency medical transportation services for persons with HIV/AIDS under the Ryan White Title 1 Program.

Non-Driver’s Identification Cards 
Six PennDot Driver’s Licensing Centers throughout Philadelphia issue identification cards, similar in appearance to a driver’s license, to non-drivers.

Special Transportation Services 

SEPTA’s CCT-CONNECT Shared Ride Program offers door-to-door transportation to Philadelphia seniors age 65 and older. Seniors pay 15% of the fare and share the same vehicle with passengers traveling to and from other destinations.

ADA Paratransit Program offers transportation to people with disabilities who cannot use SEPTA’s regular, accessible, fixed-route bus service.

PCA Attendant Transportation Service (ATS) provides door-through-door and upper floor assistance to impaired older adults. This service is provided in conjunction with SEPTA’s CCT-CONNECT Shared Ride services. Attendant services are meant to supplement rather than replace those of an informal or paid escort. Certification of eligibility is required.
