Rights of Nursing Home Residents
- The right to be informed in writing of your rights, as well as the policies and procedures of the facility
- The right to know about services and changes
- The right to know about your medical condition
- The right to participate in your plan of care, including the right to refuse treatment
- The right to choose your own physician and to use the pharmacy of your choice
- The right to have your personal and medical records treated as confidential
- The right to manage your own personal finances, including:
The right to know where your funds are and the account number; The right to receive a written accounting every three months; The right to receive a receipt for any funds spent; and The right to have access to your funds within the same day unless over $50 ($100 for Medicare resident), then within three days
- The right to privacy and to be treated with dignity and respect
- The right to use your own clothing and possessions
- The right to be free from mental, physical and sexual abuse, exploitation, neglect and involuntary seclusion
- The right to be free from restraints
- The right to voice a grievance without retaliation
