Dom Care Provider Qualifications
Dom Care providers come from all walks of life. Some are widows or older couples; others are young families. All are compassionate people willing to welcome those with special needs into their homes. Dom Care providers are responsible for the daily needs of consumers. Although some may be left alone for varying lengths of time, providers must ensure coverage when they will be away overnight, on weekends or for a vacation.
In return for providing services in their homes, Dom Care providers receive a monthly stipend for each individual, up to a maximum of three persons. Dom Care consumers pay home providers directly. The rate is set annually by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging. Many consumers are eligible for the state Dom Care income supplement. Interested Dom Care providers must complete a certification process to ensure that their homes meet fire, health and safety regulations. Providers must also:
- Complete criminal history clearances.
- Have satisfactory financial, medical and personal references.
- Attend on-going training sessions.
- Work as a team member with care managers and consumers.
