Friends of 40th Street
The Friends of 40th Street consists of neighborhood residents, representatives from local non-profit businesses, and students, faculty and staff from Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania. The group promotes equitable development of 40th Street between Lancaster and Baltimore Avenues and uses facilitated civic engagement to promote trust and a shared vision for the future of this diverse community.
Friends of 40th Street meets on the last Friday of each month at University Square Apartments, 3901 Market Street. Examples of recent initiatives include the distribution of more than 100 911-only phones to West Philadelphia seniors, and the stewarding of a community visioning and planning process for the future of 40th and Market Street that has since helped leverage more than $3 million for physical improvements to the West Market Street corridor.
