The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for Philadelphia County, is mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging (PDA) to produce a four year "area plan" for aging services. The plan is required to:
-Assess the present and projected needs of the elderly
-Establish local priorities in concert with State and Federal requirements
-Develop appropriate objectives
-Identify related budgetary implications.
The plan is developed using demographic projections, community and professional input, and research. In developing the 2008-2012 Area Plan, a series of focus groups were held to gather further insight into coming needs and trends. The plan was approved by PCA's Board of Directors and by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.
