PCA's Housing Department seeks proposals from contractors and suppliers to provide the following services in the homes of older Philadelphians: general, electrical, roofing contractors and occupational therapy consultants for home evaluations; installation and repair of residential wheelchair lifts, accessibility modifications, and stairway elevators; installation of wrought iron railings, durable medical equipment, and replacement windows and storm doors; and plumbing, electrical, lumber and hardware suppliers.

“Celebrate Arts and Aging” Highlights Older Americans Month Two centenarians are among the artists whose work is on display Philadelphia - Centenarian Yuk Fai Tsang disavows that his impressive Chinese watercolors result from any special talents. Rather, it’s a matter of hard work and determination. “When you want to do something, you do it,” he says. “Nothing can stop you.” Fai and fellow painter Leo Weisz, 102, will be among the 170-plus artists whose work will be on display in three exhibits during Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA)’s 11th annual “Celebrate Arts and Aging” festivities in May. There will also be special discounts for older adults to enjoy museums, theaters and concerts; and workshops and classes where they can cultivate their own creativity. The festivities are supported in part by PECO.
Jazz for Seniors Program

The first Jazz event of the new year at The Spring Garden Senior Center will take place on April 16, 2013 at 10:30am. Come Join us as we "Take a Jazz Trip" with the dynamic "Arpeggio Jazz Trio". The second Jazz adventure will ocurr on May 3, 2013 at 10:30am in celebration of Older Adults Month as our consumer experience the sounds of "Smooth and Funky" with the fantastic Jazz ensemble " The John Coley Trio". PCA Requests Proposals for Ombudsman Program

PCA seeks a partner agency for the professional and volunteer ombudsman services for the Northwest and Northeast Philadelphia areas. All proposals and bids submitted for the Philadelphia Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (PLTCOP) must be based on official Request for Proposal (RFP) guidelines. The RFP will be available starting April 17. PCA Adds New Members to Board & Advisory Council

PCA welcomes these new members to its Board of Directors: Frederick Lewis, Lorina Marshall-Blake and John Whitman. Jennifer C. Barnhart has joined PCA’s Advisory Council. Michael D. Blum continues as board chair, Glenn D. Bryan as board vice chair, and Arthur E. Helfand, DPM, as board treasurer. Barbara Waynant-Murphy was named board secretary. Lenore Wasserman-Scola was baned chair of the PCA Advisory Council.

PCA is accepting proposals and sealed bids for the purchase of kosher and nonkosher meals for its congregate and home-delivered meals programs. Proposals are sought for provision of hot bulk and/or preplated frozen meals for congregate meals and/or preplated frozen and cold sandwich packs for home-delivered meals.

Governor Says Lottery Management Benefits Seniors

Governor Tom Corbett today announced that contracting private management of the Pennsylvania Lottery with Camelot Global Services PA LLC is clearly in the best interest of Pennsylvania’s seniors. This partnership will maximize Lottery profit to ensure secure, predictable funding for programs benefitting a dramatically growing senior population. The decision came following nine months of due diligence and deliberative evaluation to ensure maximum growth while protecting the integrity of the lottery fund.
PCA’s SHARP Program Expands Eligibility

Effective January 1, 2013, more senior homeowners can receive minor home repairs through SHARP’s increased income guidelines and expanded program guidelines. SHARP is designed to help keep seniors safer in their homes by providing minor home repairs, including repair or installation of faucets, toilets, locks, basements steps, grab bars and railings.
PA Emergency Preparedness Guide Available

The PA Emergency Preparedness Guide is available to help people who live and work in Pennsylvania survive a disaster. The types of emergencies that are most likely to occur locally include natural disasters, flu pandemic, hazardous material spill, nuclear threat, and terrorism. The guide includes emergency planning resources and checklists for older adults, people with disabilities, and animals.
